  3. Add qualifications under Education. In Skills & languages, separate skills with commas and give your language levels.
  4. Write your Personal statement, choose one of three CV layouts and save your CV as a PDF or Word file.

Frequently asked questions

What is a CV, and what does CV stand for?

CV stands for curriculum vitae. It summarises your work experience, education, skills and languages for a job application. Include contact details and a personal statement of two or three sentences. List jobs newest first. In the UK, leave out your photo and date of birth.

What should I put on my CV?

In the standard UK CV format, jobs and qualifications go newest first. In the tool, add Personal details, Work experience, Education, Skills & languages, then your Personal statement. It then appears at the top of your CV, under your name. Use Additional information for volunteering or certificates.

How long should my CV be?

Usually two A4 pages. One page is enough if you are leaving school or applying for a first job. The live preview shows page breaks as you type.

How do I write a CV with no experience?

If you are a school leaver, student or graduate, list your school, college or university, qualifications, grades and relevant projects under Education. Put part-time jobs, placements or volunteering under Work experience and say what you did. Under Skills & languages, list relevant skills and your level in each language. In your Personal statement, write two or three sentences about your strengths and the kind of work you want.

Is this CV maker really free?

Yes. You can enter your details, preview your CV and save it as PDF, Word or plain text for free. You can also print it or copy it to Google Docs. There’s no watermark, and you won’t be asked to pay when you download.

Do I need an account to save and update my CV?

No, you do not need an account. Your CV is saved automatically in this browser, so you can come back to edit or update it any time. Save a backup file to restore your CV if you clear your browser data, or to load it on another device.

Is a CV the same as a resume?

In the UK, “CV” is the usual term for a document summarising your skills and experience. In the US, it’s “resume”. You can use this CV builder as a resume builder too. There’s also a US version with Letter paper.

What skills should I put on my CV?

List relevant skills under Skills & languages, separated by commas. Include software you can use, specialist knowledge and a driving licence if relevant. Add each language with your level, e.g. B2.

Can applicant tracking systems (ATS) read my CV?

In most cases, yes. Your PDF contains real, selectable text, not an image, so applicant tracking systems can read it. It matches the preview exactly.

Can I make my CV on my phone?

Yes. Use your phone’s browser; no app is needed. Tap “Preview” to check your CV. At the end, “Send / Save” opens the share menu with your PDF if your browser supports it. Otherwise, it saves the PDF.
